The city is served by the Effingham City Police Department, made up of officers who participate and support efforts in crime detection and prevention. Programs such as Drug Prevention, Child Safety and Neighborhood Watch only add to the sense of security and safety already present in Effingham.
The Effingham Fire Department operates out of three stations with dozens of firemen to serve its district. Fire Department services exceed that of extinguishing fires, offering services including Haz-Mat, Search and Rescue and Extrication.
