If there is one word to describe the level of education in Effingham, it is “quality”. Quality programs, quality staff and quality facilities are fixtures of this community and symbols of the importance placed on the future of our youth. Rich in educational opportunities, Effingham’s public and parochial schools offer students the latest in technology and services, from computer-assisted learning environments at the grade school level to college-centered coursework in high school. Effingham schools prepare students for their futures with extensive and complex coursework. Vocational training is also available to high school students. The qualified teachers and staff at each Effingham school help students reach their maximum potential by challenging and guiding them. Personal attention at all grade levels is a trademark of the local school system, where students are given the tools they need to learn to live a successful life. Effingham students regularly excel on standardized testing, while continuing to rise above neighboring communities in music, art, drama, and a variety of sports, including football, basketball, volleyball and baseball.
Whether it’s the public or private school system that you and your child choose, you will be impressed with the excellence in education that has become a hallmark to this community. There are three preschools associated with the school system here, as well as five elementary schools, three junior high schools and two high schools. All are either new or newly-renovated facilities, some with on-going expansion programs.
And as for school spirit, it definitely does not begin and end at the doors to the school buildings. School spirit here most certainly extends throughout the entire Effingham community, with citizens taking pride in student athletes and all of the extracurricular activities the different facilities offer. Strong support by parents and the community lends nothing but encouragement to students to achieve their potential in all they attempt.
College Choices
It’s not "if" for most graduates here; it’s "where". With the high school graduation rate exceeding that of the state average, most high school juniors and seniors aren't wondering if they'll go to college but, in fact, where they'll go. Many students here choose one of several colleges literally minutes away.
