Many people on delighted that a community of Effingham’s size offers so much great entertainment. Whether it’s fine art or the art of fine tuning an antique Corvette, Effingham offers a plethora of pastimes for just about everyone; that brings out, well, just about everyone.
The Arts
Effingham is dedicated to the arts. Throughout the year, the Fine Arts, County of Effingham (F.A.C.E.) organization and the Effingham Art Guild (E.A.G) offer cultural opportunities for the young and old alike, with a variety of theatrical and musical performances and art exhibits. The organizations encourage residents to become involved in the arts, with an instrument, acting ability, paintbrush, camera or other form of creativeness. The Effingham County Committee for the Arts sponsors the Sculpture on the Avenues program. Dramatic new sculptures join permanent ones on display every year throughout the community.
Effingham schools also are dedicated to the arts, with band, drama and show choir opportunities offering students the ability to strut their stuff, while giving the public a chance to see and hear budding artists. It, too, is a win-win for everyone.
Community Events
It’s a spirited community that year after year can continue to grow events like those offered in Effingham. You don’t have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy the Transportation Celebration, Mid America Motorworks Corvette Funfest, VW Bugfest and Porschefest which annually bring thousands of people to town. Along with antique vehicles, distance runners, food booths and craft displays, thousands of classic cars owners also make their way here to show off their "pride and joy."
Parades add to exciting activities during Homecoming, Fourth of July, Halloween and Christmas. Church picnics, charity golf outings, auctions, big band performances, and the week-long Effingham County Fair keeps not only residents of this community busy, but also neighboring towns. Effingham also plays host to the Illinois High School Rodeo Association’s State finals, offering a weekend of exciting rodeo events. These and other events mean there’s always something happening in Effingham and something for everyone!
