Residential Energy Coop Frequently Asked Questions

Residential Program – Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who can join the Residential Energy Purchasing Program?
If you reside in Illinois and live in the Ameren Illinois electricity service territory, you can enroll in this program.

  2. What makes the Residential Energy Purchasing program preferable to anything else available?
The Chamber's Residential program was formed with the express purpose of providing consumers with cost reduction, budget stability and choice.

  3. What is the benefit of joining a Purchasing Cooperative rather than going directly to a third party supplier?
Every time a new member joins the Chamber Residential program, it increases consumer purchasing power that results in giving the consumer, individually and as a whole, the power of purchasing electricity at more affordable, consistent rates, and at prices lower than what is available to the individual resident.

  4. What happens if we lose power? Who do we call?
You still call Ameren for your electric service needs. That process doesn't change. Same service, better price.

  5. Who is CQI Associates?
CQI Associates LLC is a Columbia, Maryland-based, licensed and bonded energy management and procurement firm which has been in business for over 15 years aiding commercial and residential customers across the country. The Chamber chose CQI to handle our energy purchasing program in 2007 and feel they offer the expertise and experience to provide our members the best pricing and service options.

  6. How do I learn more?
Go to www.cqiassociates.com and click on Residential Energy Purchasing Cooperative. The company is hosting a series of online informational meetings. You can select the date you would like to participate.

  7. How do I sign up?
Changing to a third party supplier is easier than one thinks. All customers need to enroll is their latest residential electric bill. Please designate the Greater Effingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry during the enrollment process to obtain the contract rate we have secured for residential customers. A convenient Energy Calculator will also provide an estimate of monthly cost savings through the Chamber residential program.

  8. Where will my bills come from?
Once you lock in your fixed energy rate through the Chamber program, you will receive one bill from your local utility company. Your new supplier and lower rate will be shown on the bill.
