Transportation is a major resource from which Effingham thrives. Major interstates, railroads and airports connect it easily to the rest of the country.
Effingham is centrally located in the Midwest, within a day’s drive to 65 percent of the nation’s manufacturing industry. Interstate Highway 57 connects Chicago to New Orleans. Interstate Highway 70 stretches from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles. They intersect right near the heart of Effingham.

U.S. Highways 40 and 45 also cross here, while Illinois Highways 32, 33 and 37 link Effingham to the rest of the state. St. Louis is an easy 90-minute drive, Indianapolis is just two hours away, and it’s less than four hours to Chicago.

Rail service connects Effingham to the rest of the country, as well, via Canadian National’s north-south railway and CSX’ east-west tracks. Amtrak service is also available here. In addition, Effingham has its own railroad company with break off and switching capabilities to serve the industrial sector.

And if it’s air travel you prefer, the Effingham County Memorial Airport handles corporate air travel and aircraft storage facilities. Commercial airports in nearby Champaign, St. Louis and Indianapolis enable travelers to fly where they want, when they want.

Effingham is truly at the crossroads of so much, literally and figuratively. But beware, Effingham is easy to get to, but most find it hard to leave.
